Issues
Property taxes in Montana are based on the value of the property you own, and we all know that property values have increased significantly over the last few years. Taxes based on the value of property generally work pretty well. However, when property values skyrocket, tax rates, mill levies, and assessed values need to be adjusted to ensure Montana taxpayers are not being overtaxed and the government doesn’t end up with more money than it needs to do its job.
We need to fund schools, care for our roads and infrastructure, pay our police officers and fire fighters, and reasonably fund the governments that allow us to do those things, but our government absolutely must be fiscally responsible and transparent. When state and local levies raise more money than anticipated or reasonably necessary, the tax system needs to be reworked. I have the education, experience, and drive to do that.
Nearly one third of the land in Montana is state or federally owned, but much of that is not accessible to people who want to hunt, fish, or recreate in the beautiful places Montana has to offer. I support access to public lands and will work with landowners and state agencies to find ways to increase access.
Whether that’s acquiring land, conservation easements, or roads that open the way to landlocked public lands; building and maintaining fishing access sites, trailheads, and campgrounds; or ensuring a clean and healthy environment for generations to come. As your Representative, I will work hard to make your public lands accessible to you.
As your Representative, it will be my job to work for you. Working together we can find solutions to the issues that affect us all; the high cost of housing and healthcare, increasing government overreach, a lack of transparency in government, fiscal responsibility, and the wearing away of our constitutional rights. Let me know what I can do for you in the Montana Legislature.
